5 from ledge at Encinitas Community Center The artist group Ledge will host a reception on Sunday, March 14, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm the Encinitas Library Community Center gallery. The library is located on Cornish Dr. between D and E Streets. The 5 exhibiting artists will be present to answer questions and discuss their work. Ramon Cruz, a solo guitar instrumentalist will perform during the reception. The Ledge exhibit will be from March 2 through April 18th. It is free and open to the public during regular library hours. Irene Abraham to Open Solo Show During Ray at Night Irene Abraham will be having a solo show, Points of Reference, from May 9 to June 10 at 4 Walls Gallery, presented by 4 Walls and Larry Caveney's, The Garage. The reception will be on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 6:00-9:00 pm, at 4 Walls, during the Ray at Night event, at 3813 Ray Street, San Diego, 619-501-0879. This exhibition at the Front Porch Gallery, 2903 Carlsbad Boulevard, Carlsbad, features the visions of four artists as they explore the luminous depths of this ancient art form. Experience the magic of ideas hidden then revealed through the translucent, layered effect of the beeswax and pigments. The exhibit includes paintings, mixed-media and sculptural pieces that intrigue the eye and illuminate the intuitive mind. A mixed media piece, The Legacy, by Judith Parenio, was accepted into the 2nd City Council Art Gallery+Performance Space's juried exhibition, “Strength & Vulnerability.” The exhibit runs from July 5-August 7, 2008, with a reception on July 12, 7-9 pm, at 435 Alamitos ave., Long Beach, Calif. 90802. Irene Abraham showing at the Riverside Art Museum Irene’s work will be included in the Painting’s Edge show at the Riverside Art Museum, July 22-August 16, 2008. Moya’s work was also included in the 3rd Annual Human Rights Exhibition in April at South Texas College. The show also traveled to the University of of Texas Pan Am and the Universidad De Monterrey.

On October 11, in two sessions, the five artists each explained their work and the creative process involved in making the pieces in the exhibit. Very attentive audiences packed the gallery for both of the talk sessions. The opening reception on October 13 was well attended and viewers lingered beyond the closing time. The display of small boxes made by each of the artists prompted many questions and comments. The boxes were considered provocative as well as humorous. The exhibit is up through November 1st. San Diego Art Institute presents solo show of works by Judith Parenio Judith Parenio will present a solo exhibit, "Impressions of Mexico...Dia de Los Muertos and Other Influences," a collection of colorful, handmade shadow boxes full of related images, at the San Diego Art Institute from September 6 to October 6. A reception for the artist will take place on Friday, September 14, 6:00-8:00 pm; and hors d'ourves plus music by the famed Mariachi Chula Vista will be provided. Encaustic Works ’07 includes piece by Judith Parenio A small encaustic piece, “Tantien,” by Judith Parenio, was accepted into the prestigious juried exhibit Encaustic Works ’07, in New York. This exhibit had 400 entries and 44 were chosen. The show will last two months at R&F Paints in Kingston, New York, then travel to Ball State University's Atrium Gallery, in Indiana, from October 31 to December 1st, 2007. Works by Cheryl Griffiths exhibited at SDAI Cheryl Griffiths had two pieces of her work on view at the San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park. The Regional Juried Show included her piece entitled “In a Poet’s Garden,” a monotype which sold before the exhibit even opened. The juror was Jeanne Dunn, a widely exhibited artist, who is an art professor at San Diego State University. The second piece, entitled “Queen,” is mixed media on canvas and was in the 1 Foot Show. The exhibit ran through Sunday, April 29, 2007. Sixth Biennial Artists’ Books Juried Exhibition included ledge artists Works by Irene Abraham and Kathy Miller were accepted into the La Jolla Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s Sixth Biennial Artists’ Books Juried Exhibition. The Juror was Victoria Steel, Ph.D., Head, Special Collections, University of California, Los Angeles. The show opened with a reception on Friday, May 11, 2007, at 6:30 pm, and continued through June 9, 2007. The Athenaeum is located at 1008 Wall Street in La Jolla, www.ljathenaeum.org. Inaugural exhibition In January - February of 2007, the group ledge had their inaugural show at the Solana Beach Library. The pieces were eclectic, yet cohesive in their communication of the theme of re-Vision. The artists gave short talks about their work which were enthusiastically received by visitors at the reception. Future collaborations within the group will strive to produce interesting and provocative results, as the artists reach out to explore new territory with their audience. |
